E for Good

  • M&S:   I started working with M&S in 2002, writing a report for their food division, which they say helped them towards their highly acclaimed Plan A.  But since then the main focus of my work with them has been on packaging issues – I sat on their expert advisory board on this issue and have written a number of consumer briefing sheets.  I’ve also helped them with visionary work on food issues.
  • Food Ethics Council:  I sat on the Food Ethics Council between 2007 and 2011.  it campaigns to promote a cleaner, fairer food system.  And during my time there I chaired a number of Business Forum meetings, including ones on meat, food miles and eco-labelling.
  • Morrisons:  Between 2008 and 2010 I advised Morrisons on their sustainability policies.  I spent some time reviewing their operations, including head office, stores and food factories.
  • McDonalds:  In 2007 I gave a presentation to the European Management team at McDonalds on sustainability in their supply chain.  Despite my critical stance – or perhaps because of it – the company then asked me to speak at their management conference in Chicago.  I was asked to give them a critical insight of their environmental performance.
  • Somerset Local Food Direct (www.sfmdirect.co.uk) :  I buy almost all my food from this company – they have a weekly delivery of organic, local and fair trade produce.  It’s good quality food – and saves me a lot of time!
