When I was in Hong Kong, I was horrified by the smog shrouding the city. It could be a sunny day but the sky was barely visible. Some of this, at least, came from the diesel powered ships criss crossing the harbour.
I read a very illuminating article from the Guardian which illustrates hows slow moving this industry is in embracing greener solutions – actually, it’s a bit like trying to turn a tanker…. Apparently, around 90% of international trade is shipped around the world. But the people who manufacturer the ships, don’t pay for the fuel, so they’re not interested in making them more efficient. And the people that use them, don’t have sufficient incentives either.
So, who should be pushing for change in this sector?
