We bought a couple of lobsters from Lidl for £5.99 each and had them for supper. They weren’t particularly good despite getting the top rating for ‘cheap supermarket lobsters’. And, even worse, they were tiny.
I’ve looked up the sustainability of small lobsters and see that it’s definitely not recommended. They should be thrown back into the sea and given time to breed.
No more small lobsters for me – but, apparently we shouldn’t be buying ones that are too big either – need to keep the ones with good genes breeding. Next time I want lobster on the menu, I’ll be looking for local ones and / or those recommended by the Marine Stewardship Council, who offer excellent advice on sourcing sustainable fish.
