We started wilding in earnest at Hooke Farm in 2020, as the first Covid lock-down got underway. The first 3 months required a lot of earth moving, as we created ponds, waterfalls, wildflower meadows and mounds.
A year later we had poppies and cornflowers, daisies and camomile spread across the site. It was a riot of colour and incredibly exciting. Two years on the perennials came to the fore with a mass of bird’s foot trefoil, kidney vetch and many plants I don’t recognise. But best of all is the influx of bees, birds, butterflies & other wildlife.
This page will give you some of the highlights and includes information boards about some of the features we have introduced – our bird boxes, hibernaculum, bat egg and Sweet track to name a few.
We hosted our 2nd Wilding Weekend in June 2023 and our third one will be on 15th and 16th June 2024. Please do come along.
